Cold 187um Presents ‘Gangster and Elegant.’
Before G-Funk became a movement, Big Hutch was already building the blueprint.
Known worldwide as Cold 187um, Gregory “Big Hutch” Hutchison is more than a rapper and producer—he is one of the true architects of the West Coast sound. As the creative force behind legendary Pomona group Above the Law, Hutch helped reshape hip-hop’s sonic landscape by blending street narratives, live instrumentation, soulful melodies, and cinematic production into a formula that would influence generations.
Formed in the late ’80s and signed to Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records, Above the Law delivered groundbreaking albums including Livin’ Like Hustlers (1990) and Uncle Sam’s Curse (1994), establishing themselves as pioneers of a sound that would become known globally as G-Funk.
While history often points to later mainstream moments, true hip-hop historians recognize Cold 187um’s fingerprints on the foundation. His innovative approach—built around musicianship, live elements, and rich arrangements—helped redefine what West Coast hip-hop could sound like.
Beyond Above the Law, Big Hutch’s production legacy includes work with some of the biggest names in the culture, including Eazy-E, Snoop Dogg, MC Ren, Kokane, and E-40, cementing his reputation as one of the genre’s most respected creators.
But Hutch never stopped evolving.
From his solo catalog—including Executive Decisions, Live From the Ghetto, The Only Solution, and The Black Godfather—to his continued work in music, television, and storytelling, he has remained committed to pushing the culture forward.
Now, Cold 187um enters his next chapter with Gangster and Elegant, a powerful new album introducing his evolving GSoul movement: a fusion of classic West Coast gangsta rap, refined R&B influences, soulful musicianship, and the wisdom that comes from decades of experience.

Featuring standout tracks including “The Royal Promise,” “Cuban Links and Loyalty,” “Mobzilla,” “Love and Pain,” and “Gold Lion Energy,” Gangster and Elegant represents the balance that has always defined Big Hutch’s artistry.
Because being gangster was never just about the streets.
It was about survival.
And elegance was never about appearances.
It was about mastery.
With Gangster and Elegant, Cold 187um delivers another reminder that true innovators don’t chase trends—they create legacies.
The architect is still building.
