{"id":97857,"date":"2026-09-06T18:12:34","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T18:12:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/trump-administration-makes-another-supreme-court-appeal-on-mail-ballot-fight\/"},"modified":"2026-09-06T18:12:34","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T18:12:34","slug":"trump-administration-makes-another-supreme-court-appeal-on-mail-ballot-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/trump-administration-makes-another-supreme-court-appeal-on-mail-ballot-fight\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump administration makes another Supreme Court appeal on mail ballot fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>The Trump administration has once again asked the Supreme Court to intervene in its <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/postal-service-mail-voting-rules-block\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">fight to restrict mail ballots<\/a><\/span> ahead of the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>The filing on Sunday comes just two days after U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/judge-extends-block-postal-service-trump-mail-in-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">extended an order<\/a><\/span> against the U.S. Postal Service enforcing President Trump&#8217;s executive order for the November elections.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ballots have already begun to be mailed in North Carolina, and more States will begin the mailing process as the injunction remains in place \u2014 including Alabama on September 9 and at least five States the week of September 13,&#8221; Solicitor General John Sauer said in the filing. &#8220;Once those ballot envelopes enter the mailstream, there is no retrieving them. And while the injunction allows the Postal Service and the States to continue taking steps to ensure that their envelopes satisfy the Rule&#8217;s requirements &#8230; each day the injunction is in place risks sowing confusion and chaos because the injunction makes those preparatory steps voluntary, rather than mandatory.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The appeal marks the third time the administration has asked the high court to intervene. The high court has allowed the plan to move forward but not ruled on whether it is legal.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/postal-service-mail-voting-rules-block\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">The battle<\/a><\/span> could have major ramifications for this year&#8217;s elections, when control of Congress is at stake. Nearly one-third of voters in the U.S. cast mail ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic states and voting rights groups say the changes are unconstitutional. Election officials contend there isn&#8217;t enough time to revise their systems to comply with the new Postal Service directives, including unique barcodes, and to submit to an online portal information about residents who will vote by mail, including their names, addresses and the individualized barcodes.<\/p>\n<p>But state and local election officials have\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/mail-voting-rules-usps-election-officials-midterms\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">raised concerns<\/a><\/span>\u00a0about their ability to comply with the requirements so soon before the Nov. 3 midterms. They said in court filings that ballot envelopes have already been ordered and printed.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has framed the restrictions as commonsense changes that are within its power to regulate the mail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Simply put, the best way to address respondents&#8217; fears about inability to comply with the Rule is to grant an immediate administrative stay of the order, followed by a full stay pending further review,&#8221; Sauer said. &#8220;That will remove the improper cloud of uncertainty that the district court has cast over the Rule, making clear to all involved that compliance with the Rule is not optional and must start without further delay.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump has long sought to limit mail voting, even though he himself often uses that method to cast his own ballot. He has falsely blamed mail balloting for his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden, spreading baseless claims of fraud. But so far, he has been unable to change the longstanding voting procedure.<\/p>\n<section class=\"content__body--footer\">\n<\/section>\n<p>  <!-- data-recirc-source=\"queryly\" --><\/p>\n<aside
