The mixed doubles main draw begins Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>It will be Williams&#8217; first time playing at the U.S. Open since 2022. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/serena-williams-singles-tennis-wimbledon-return\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">played singles<\/a>, losing to 20-year-old <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/serena-williams-to-face-maya-joint-in-wimbledon-first-round-match\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Maya Joint<\/a><\/span> in the first round. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/serena-williams-withdraws-wimbledon-doubles-match-knee-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">withdrew from a doubles match<\/a> with her sister Venus, citing a knee injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Williams did play doubles with Venus at the Cincinnati Open earlier this month. The Cincinnati event marked their first doubles match since 2022, when they lost to Czech pair Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz announced this week that he would return to defend his U.S. Open singles title after being sidelined since April with a right wrist injury.
