That&#8217;s pretty incredible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He later added, &#8220;It could have been disastrous, but I&#8217;m glad it all worked out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration said the two planes maintained the required separation the entire time. The FAA said it is investigating the incident.<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines told CBS News the situation was triggered because the flight arriving from Chicago O&#8217;Hare International Airport was delayed. That plane was supposed to land in Phoenix, take on new passengers, and then return to Chicago on the same callsign.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the delay, however, a different aircraft was brought in so the waiting passengers in Phoenix could depart.<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines said in a statement it was &#8220;reviewing\u2004the\u2004details\u2004related\u2004to\u2004two American\u2004flights with the same\u2004callsign.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The diligence\u2004and professionalism\u2004of air\u2004traffic controllers\u2004and our\u2004pilots\u2004ensured\u2004required separation was always maintained\u2004and the\u2004issue\u2004was\u2004identified and\u2004addressed,&#8221; the airline said. &#8220;Both flights\u2004continued safely and\u2004without
