Mark Warner wants to rein in AI agents, the autonomous bots that can complete tasks for consumers, such as booking trips and\u00a0<a href=\"\" target=\"_blank\">shopping online<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia Democrat is supporting a first-of-its-kind draft\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/DRAFT.AI_AGENT_Act_onepager.v2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the Artificial Intelligence Access, Gatekeeper Exchange and Nondiscriminatory Transfer, or AI Agent, Act \u2014 that proposes privacy and security measures that he said would protect consumers and businesses from potential risks of\u00a0using AI.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As agentic AI transforms how Americans interact with technology, consumers deserve a real choice in the marketplace \u2013 and AI agents must be accountable to the people they serve,&#8221; Warner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/warner-unveils-discussion-draft-of-legislation-to-create-innovative-market-for-secure-artificial-intelligence-agents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement on Monday. &#8220;This discussion draft is a major step toward building a clear federal framework that promotes innovation, protects consumers and ensures the United States continues to lead the world in emerging technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The AI Agent Act proposes establishing rights and responsibilities for AI agents that access large online platforms, while also ensuring they act in a user&#8217;s best interest.
