The MacBook Neo, which Apple introduced earlier this year to appeal to budget-conscious customers at a starting price of $599, has increased to $699.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other changes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MacBook Air 512GB: Now $1,299, up from $1,099<\/li>\n<li>MacBook Pro 1T: Now $1,999, up from $1699<\/li>\n<li>iPad Air 128GB: Now $749, up from $599<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The price hikes don&#8217;t include the iPhone, Apple&#8217;s core product, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/apple-raises-prices-macbooks-ipads-memory-costs-skyrocket-2026-06-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to Reuters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apple hasn&#8217;t announced what the iPhone price increases will be, but they are surely coming,&#8221; Nabila Popal, senior director of data and analytics at International Data Corporation, a market intelligence and advisory firm, said in an email. &#8220;The storm isn&#8217;t over yet; this is just the beginning. iPhones are the biggest revenue driver for Apple, so they are saving that announcement for later.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Apple shares tumbled after the company&#8217;s announcement, falling $16.49, or 5.6%, to $276.68, in midafternoon trading.<\/p>\n<h2>AI boom drives up chip costs<\/h2>\n<p>The rapid expansion of AI data centers has heightened demand for computing power, exacerbating a chip shortage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In December, the International Data Corporation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idc.com\/resource-center\/blog\/global-memory-shortage-crisis-market-analysis-and-the-potential-impact-on-the-smartphone-and-pc-markets-in-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said <\/a>the memory market is at an &#8220;unprecedented inflection point&#8221; and predicted the chip shortage could last &#8220;well into 2027.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The shortage has had a knock-on effect on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/ai-fueled-memory-chip-shortage-could-raise-prices-everyday-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">everyday tech<\/a>, including\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/computer-price-memory-chip-shortage-artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">personal computers<\/a><\/span>, which are seeing higher prices for the first time in decades.<\/p>\n<p>In an exclusive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/apple-price-increases-memory-supply-199845b1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with the Wall Street Journal on June 17, Chief Executive Tim Cook said the company is doing its best to shield customers from price hikes but said, &#8220;the situation has become unsustainable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve never seen anything like it in any
