{"id":82735,"date":"2026-05-30T01:31:38","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T01:31:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/trump-signs-order-directing-cdc-to-align-with-assessment-calling-for-fewer-childhood-vaccines\/"},"modified":"2026-05-30T01:31:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T01:31:38","slug":"trump-signs-order-directing-cdc-to-align-with-assessment-calling-for-fewer-childhood-vaccines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/trump-signs-order-directing-cdc-to-align-with-assessment-calling-for-fewer-childhood-vaccines\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump signs order directing CDC to align with assessment calling for fewer childhood vaccines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>President Trump signed an executive order Friday that directs the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to align with a scientific assessment released earlier this year by the Department of Health and Human Services that calls for fewer childhood vaccines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after Mr. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/12\/aligning-united-states-core-childhood-vaccine-recommendations-with-best-practices-from-peer-developed-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in December<\/a> issued a memo directing HHS to align U.S. childhood vaccine recommendations with &#8220;best practices from peer, developed countries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In early January, HHS released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/decision-memo-adopting-revised-childhood-adolescent-immunization-schedule.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an assessment<\/a> that determined the U.S. &#8220;recommends more childhood vaccines than any peer nation, and more than twice as many vaccine doses as some European nations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Following that assessment, the CDC, which is part of HHS, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/cdc-announces-new-childhood-vaccine-recommendations\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">announced updated recommendations<\/a><\/span>\u00a0in January that would reduce the number of recommended immunizations for children from 17 to 11. <\/p>\n<p>The move <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/cdc-childhood-vaccines-heres-what-they-prevent\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">prompted heavy criticism<\/a><\/span> from medical experts and health organizations, including <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/american-academy-of-pediatrics-vaccine-recommendations\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">the American Academy of Pediatrics<\/a><\/span>, which subsequently chose to release its own childhood vaccine recommendations, breaking significantly with the CDC guidance. <\/p>\n<p>Friday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/05\/realigning-united-states-core-childhood-vaccine-recommendations-with-best-practices-from-peer-developed-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive order<\/a> directs the CDC and the CDC&#8217;s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, or ACIP, to review HHS&#8217; January &#8220;scientific assessment and the latest clinical data&#8221; and &#8220;take any appropriate steps to update the United States childhood and adolescent vaccine schedule.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By signing today&#8217;s Executive Order, President Trump is reaffirming his commitment to gold-standard science, ensuring Americans receive the best possible medical advice, and empowering patients and doctors with maximum flexibility,&#8221; the White House said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2026\/05\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-realigns-u-s-core-childhood-vaccine-recommendations-with-best-practices-from-peer-developed-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fact sheet<\/a> accompanying Friday&#8217;s order. <\/p>\n<p>In the CDC&#8217;s January recommendations, it found that only children in high-risk categories should receive immunizations for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), hepatitis A, hepatitis B, dengue, meningococcal ACWY and meningococcal B.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The CDC kept recommendations in place for 11 childhood diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), pneumonia, polio, human papillomavirus, or HPV, and varicella, or chickenpox. (Some vaccines, such as the MMR shot for measles, mumps and rubella, protect against multiple diseases.)<\/p>\n<p>In December, the CDC&#8217;s ACIP panel <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/cdc-acip-vaccine-panel-hepatitis-b-birth-dose\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">also issued a controversial recommendation<\/a><\/span> on when children should get their first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine. For decades, it has been recommended that children receive the first dose within 24 hours of birth, but the panel voted to recommend that the first dose be delayed until a child is 2 months old if the mother tested negative for the virus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The current ACIP panel was chosen by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vaccine skeptic, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/acip-vaccine-panel-ousted-by-rfk-jr-speaks-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">after he ousted<\/a><\/span> all 17 members of the previous panel.\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/new-cdc-acip-members-covid-vaccine-critics\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Several<\/a><\/span>\u00a0of the newest members have questioned established medical research on vaccines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In March, a <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/judge-blocks-parts-of-rfk-jrs-vaccine-agenda-including-new-childhood-vaccine-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">judge ruled against<\/a><\/span> the new HHS childhood vaccine schedule recommendations in a lawsuit brought by the American Academy of Pediatrics and others, finding that Kennedy&#8217;s moves to appoint the new ACIP panel violated federal law. The judge also wrote that the government &#8220;disregarded&#8221; its traditional, scientifically grounded process for vaccine recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has argued that American children tend to be recommended for more vaccines than children in some other developed countries, particularly in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The American Academy of Pediatrics has argued that most developed countries have broadly similar practices, and any differences are due to country-specific factors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t follow Denmark&#8217;s vaccine recommendations because we don&#8217;t live in Denmark,&#8221; Dr. Jose Romero, a member of the group&#8217;s committee on infectious diseases, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/en\/news-room\/fact-checked\/fact-checked-u.s.-vaccine-recommendations-are-appropriate-for-children-in-the-united-states?srsltid=AfmBOoqq3roESrn-a8RGgSrKHGme0IbbIszCxVp-4X0790srlBPaQ8Yf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> last year. &#8220;Children in the United States are at risk of different diseases than children in other countries.
