James Comer of Kentucky, the panel&#8217;s chairman,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Polymarket-Prediction-Markets-Letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Kalshi-Prediction-Markets-Letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letters <\/a>to Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour and Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan requesting internal documents to determine what the companies are doing to deter insider trading.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, Comer asked Kalshi and Polymarket to provide information on how they investigate potential insider trading and on the identity verification processes for domestic and international account holders.<\/p>\n<p>Polymarket and Kalshi allow users to speculate on the outcome of future events, such as elections, sports and geopolitical developments. While their popularity has skyrocketed, they&#8217;ve also drawn scrutiny from lawmakers after a series of suspiciously timed bets sparked concerns about insider trading.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter on Friday, Comer requested information from Mansour and Coplan on trading activity on their platforms tied to the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/betting-on-iran-war-insider-trading-concerns-prediction-markets-60-minutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Iran war<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and to the Trump administration&#8217;s capture of former\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/polymarket-maduro-capture-bet-400000\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Venezuelan leader<\/a><\/span> Nicol\u00e1s Maduro. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; report, an investigation by data analytics firm Bubblemaps found that 9 Polymarket accounts made a total of $2.4 million by correctly guessing the dates of pivotal moments in the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>In April, federal prosecutors <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/us-soldier-pleads-not-guilty-charges-gambling-maduro-raid\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">charged a U.S. special forces soldier<\/a><\/span>\u00a0with allegedly using confidential government information to bet on Maduro&#8217;s removal from office, a trade that netted <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/u-s-special-forces-won-409k-bet-maduro-removal-venezuela\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">more than $400,000<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The soldier, Gannon Ken Van Dyke, 38, has been charged with unlawful use of confidential government information for personal gain, theft of nonpublic government information, commodities fraud, wire fraud and making an unlawful monetary transaction. He has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to CBS News on Friday, a Polymarket spokesperson said the company &#8220;maintains a comprehensive market integrity framework.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kalshi also touted its efforts to prevent insider trading. Spokesperson Elisabeth Diana told CBS News that the company has implemented &#8220;comprehensive&#8221; safeguards.<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, both platforms have\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/polymarket-insider-trading-rules-iran-war-venezuela\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">tightened their rules<\/a><\/span> to prevent users from trading on confidential information.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Kalshi\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.kalshi.com\/p\/kalshi-political-insider-trading-enforcement-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fined<\/a> three congressional candidates and suspended their accounts on the platform for five years after a company investigation found they gambled on their own elections.
