Coinbase will experiment with &#8220;one-person teams&#8221; that combine the duties of engineers, designers and product managers, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a new way of working, and we need to leverage AI across every facet of our jobs,&#8221; Armstrong said.<\/p>\n<p>As of the end of 2025, Coinbase had nearly 5,000 employees, according to a regulatory\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net\/CIK-0001679788\/bfd1f1fb-c113-49c9-acec-07af6b8acb64.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filing<\/a>. The company expects to complete the layoffs by the second quarter of 2026. Coinbase estimates it will incur $50 million to $60 million in restructuring costs.<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase is the latest in a <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/ai-layoffs-2026-artificial-intelligence-amazon-pinterest\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">wave of companies<\/a><\/span> to announce AI-related job cuts. In February, Jack Dorsey said his financial technology company Block would cut its workforce by nearly half as it uses AI to increase productivity.
