Cross \/ Bloomberg via Getty Images \/ Tierney L CROSS<\/p>\n<p>                          <\/span><br \/>\n              <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Aligned with Trump on interest rates<\/h2>\n<p>The Federal Reserve raises and lowers its benchmark interest rate as necessary to control inflation and support job growth \u2014 a mission central bank officials have long said requires insulating the Fed from political pressure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Warsh has recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-07-15\/trump-fed-chair-contender-kevin-warsh-ready-to-cut-interest-rates?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">argued for lower interest rates<\/a>, a view that aligns with Mr. Trump&#8217;s push for the Fed to ease borrowing costs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On policy decisions, Warsh&#8217;s recent comments suggest he could support lower policy rates, possibly counterbalanced by a smaller balance sheet,&#8221; the Deutsche Bank analysts said.<\/p>\n<p>Warsh&#8217;s latest perspective wouldn&#8217;t solely dictate monetary policy, given that the Fed chair doesn&#8217;t set interest rates unilaterally. Decisions on the federal funds rate, which affects borrowing costs for consumers and businesses, are set by a majority vote among the 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a result, other FOMC members may seek to demonstrate the Fed&#8217;s independence by resisting pressure to cut rates, experts said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If he walks into the Fed with aggressive cuts as his baseline, he may not have a lot of credibility selling others on the need for further rate cuts,&#8221; Sonu Varghese, global macro strategist at investment firm Carson Group, told investors in a research note. &#8220;And we may even end up with a deeply divided committee that doesn&#8217;t cut at all. In the immediate term, a potentially hawkish Fed could increase volatility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Fed <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fed-meeting-fomc-interest-rate-decision-january-28\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">held rates steady<\/a><\/span> at its Jan. 28 meeting, marking the central bank&#8217;s first pause after three consecutive cuts. Powell cited the U.S. economy&#8217;s strong growth and a stabilization in the labor market as reasons that the majority of FOMC voted to keep its benchmark rate unchanged at between 3.5% and 3.75.%.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115978487020569325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">criticized<\/a> the decision on Thursday, writing on social media, &#8220;The Fed should substantially lower interest rates, NOW!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>FOMC members are also likely to signal to Wall Street that the central bank remains insulated from political pressure after a change in Fed leadership, reducing the odds of a sharp shift in monetary policy, Deutsche Bank said.<\/p>\n<h2>In the orbit of billionaires<\/h2>\n<p>Warsh, a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School, went to work on Wall Street at Morgan Stanley after getting his law degree. He worked in mergers and acquisitions at the investment bank.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2002, Warsh joined President George W. Bush&#8217;s administration, where he worked in the National Economic Council. The president tapped him to serve on the Fed board of governors in 2006, making Warsh the youngest person ever to hold the position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since leaving the Fed in 2011, Warsh has worked for think tanks such as the conservative-leaning Hoover Institution and has also taught at Stanford Business School.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Warsh has worked with <a href=\"https:\/\/msb.georgetown.edu\/profiles\/kevin-warsh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">billionaire investor<\/a> Stanley Druckenmiller, whose estimated $11 billion net worth stems from his work at hedge funds such as George Soros&#8217; Quantum Fund.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, Druckenmiller appointed Warsh to serve as a partner at the investor&#8217;s Duquesne Family Office, where Warsh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/articles\/kevin-warsh-trump-fed-chair-pick-contender-d909840e?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqfZbyOOQRMpM_UewTUNZtzc4V7DMDnvwQVtQFqGtQK1Mh9pI06S0o6oiMd9xlY%3D&amp;gaa_ts=69446d60&amp;gaa_sig=aK54A06o7jWvll8VllWknCzwRsXXQa_4L6m3ZBV2-xurUkHEidxZZEZ5p1JAARFFzmpWjzFMy04a9bvCnJMBQg%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told<\/a> Barron&#8217;s that he oversees the billionaire&#8217;s &#8220;small nest egg.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Warsh is also married to a billionaire: cosmetics heiress Jane Lauder, whose net worth is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/jane-lauder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">estimated<\/a> at $2.5 billion by Forbes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a July <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4QFkauEI3XI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">interview<\/a> with CNBC, Warsh expressed optimism about the Trump administration&#8217;s economic policies, as well as the potential for artificial intelligence to boost business productivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;AI is going to make everything cost less, and the U.S. could be the big winner,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If I were the president, what I would be worried about is a central bank that doesn&#8217;t see any of that \u2014 a central bank that is stuck
