{"id":57802,"date":"2025-11-23T01:49:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T01:49:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/justice-department-requests-to-unseal-epstein-maxwell-grand-jury-records\/"},"modified":"2025-11-23T01:49:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T01:49:42","slug":"justice-department-requests-to-unseal-epstein-maxwell-grand-jury-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/justice-department-requests-to-unseal-epstein-maxwell-grand-jury-records\/","title":{"rendered":"Justice Department requests to unseal Epstein, Maxwell grand jury records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>The Justice Department on Friday asked a court to unseal grand jury transcripts in the sex trafficking cases of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.693993\/gov.uscourts.flsd.693993.6.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">motion<\/a>, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida by Attorney General Pam Bondi, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/epstein-files-vote-2025\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">follows the congressional passage<\/a><\/span> this week of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a bill that compels the Justice Department to release all unclassified records related to Epstein within 30 days. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the light of the Act&#8217;s clear mandate, the Court should authorize the Department of Justice to release the grand jury transcripts and lift any preexisting protective orders that would otherwise prevent public disclosure,&#8221; the Justice Department wrote in its motion. <\/p>\n<p>It stated that it would &#8220;make appropriate redactions of victim-related and other personal identifying information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The motion, which was also signed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and U.S. Attorney Jason Quinones, asks the court to &#8220;lift any and all preexisting protective orders that would prevent the Department from complying with the Act.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department filed an expedited ruling given the Epstein Act&#8217;s 30-day deadline. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President Trump, who at one time had a friendship with Epstein and had been against the bill, dropped his opposition and <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-says-signed-epstein-files-bill\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">signed<\/a><\/span> it into law on Wednesday. Mr. Trump, who cut ties with Epstein years ago, has not been accused of wrongdoing. <\/p>\n<p>In July 2019, a New York federal grand jury <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jeffrey-epstein-charged-two-counts-of-sex-trafficking-underaged-girls-pleads-not-guilty-today-live-updates-2019-07-08\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">indicted Epstein<\/a><\/span> on child sex trafficking charges, about five weeks before <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jeffrey-epstein-cell-where-he-died-disarray-no-thorough-inspection\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">he was found dead<\/a><\/span> in a Manhattan jail. His death was later ruled a suicide. <\/p>\n<p>Then, in June 2020, a New York federal grand jury indicted Maxwell, Epstein&#8217;s former partner, of conspiring with Epstein and helping to facilitate and operate his sex trafficking ring. She <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/ghislaine-maxwell-verdict-2021-12-29\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">was convicted<\/a><\/span> in December 2021 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. <\/p>\n<p>This marks the latest attempt by the Justice Department to unseal Epstein and Maxwell&#8217;s grand jury records. <\/p>\n<p>In August, a New York judge <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/ghislaine-maxwell-grand-jury-unseal-denied\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">denied a similar Justice Department request<\/a><\/span> to <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trumps-justice-department-asks-judge-to-unseal-epstein-grand-jury-material\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">unseal grand jury material<\/a><\/span> in the Maxwell case, arguing that anyone &#8220;who reviewed these materials expecting, based on the Government&#8217;s representations, to learn new information about Epstein&#8217;s and Maxwell&#8217;s crimes and the investigation into them, would come away feeling disappointed and misled. There is no &#8216;there&#8217; there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Epstein, a wealthy financier known for his connections to political elites and high-profile people, was under federal probes for decades over allegations of sex trafficking. In 2008, he pleaded guilty in Florida to state charges of soliciting prostitution in exchange for having a federal case against him dropped. He served 13 months in county jail and had to register as a sex offender. <\/p>\n<p>The Epstein case received renewed attention starting in July when the Justice Department released <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jeffrey-epstein-client-list-died-by-suicide-justice-department-review\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">a two-page memo<\/a><\/span> stating that a &#8220;systematic review&#8221; had &#8220;revealed&#8221; that Epstein had &#8220;incriminating &#8216;client list,&#8217; and that &#8220;no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions.&#8221; \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The memo, which prompted an outcry from Epstein accusers, came after Bondi had said in a February interview that there was an Epstein client list &#8220;sitting on my desk right now.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jeffrey-epstein-list-names-released-unsealed-documents\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Several batches<\/a><\/span> of Epstein-linked documents have been intermittently released throughout the years. The latest such release occurred earlier this month, when a <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jeffrey-epstein-donald-trump-emails-house-oversight\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">tranche of tens of thousands<\/a><\/span> of pages of documents were released by both House Democrats and the House Oversight Committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<section
