And he&#8217;s held one-on-one events in the Oval Office with a succession of tech and pharmaceutical executives, often to announce multibillion-dollar manufacturing deals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last month, JPMorgan Chase \u2014 which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/releases\/lbr\/current\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">by far the nation&#8217;s largest bank<\/a> in terms of deposits \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpmorganchase.com\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2025\/jpmc-security-resiliency-initiative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">announced<\/a> plans to invest $1.5 trillion over the next decade to support &#8220;industries critical to national economic security and resiliency,&#8221; including critical minerals, defense technology and artificial intelligence. That&#8217;s up from $1 trillion in planned investments, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump often uses Wall Street as one barometer for his handling of the economy. In an <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/read-full-transcript-norah-odonnell-60-minutes-interview-with-president-trump\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">interview<\/a><\/span> with &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; that aired earlier this month, he touted a recent S&amp;P 500 record.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re doing really well, and everybody knows it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bankers have also been pitching the Trump administration on why their company should handle the initial public offerings for mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, according to sources familiar with the matter. The two entities have been government-controlled since the 2008 financial crisis, but Mr. Trump has <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-fannie-mae-freddie-mac-what-to-know\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">discussed returning them<\/a><\/span> to financial markets for months.<\/p>\n<p>But in some cases, portions of the business community have chafed at the president&#8217;s policies. Stocks plunged in April when Mr. Trump unveiled hefty tariffs on dozens of countries. Though markets have recovered since then, many economists worry the tariffs could lead to higher prices and slower economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>His pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates could also clash with Wall Street&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/finance\/jpmorgan-ceo-dimon-says-fed-independence-absolutely-critical-2025-07-15\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">strong preference<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/11\/11\/goldman-sachs-ceo-david-solomon-38-trillion-national-debt-reckoning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">for an independent Fed<\/a>, and Mr. Trump has <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/h-1b-visa-fee-100k-chamber-of-commerce-sues-trump-administration\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">faced pushback<\/a><\/span> from the pro-business Chamber of Commerce over a plan to charge hefty fees for high-skilled worker visas.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump&#8217;s relationship with Dimon, who has helmed JPMorgan Chase since before the 2008 financial crisis, has oscillated for years. The president <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/111499630777016905\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">called Dimon<\/a> a &#8220;Highly overrated Globalist&#8221; in 2023, after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/11\/29\/us\/politics\/nikki-haley-super-pac-trump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">talked up<\/a> Mr. Trump&#8217;s GOP primary rival, Nikki Haley. The following year, Mr. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/features\/2024-trump-interview-transcript\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told Bloomberg Businessweek<\/a> he had &#8220;a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dimon <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jpmorgan-chase-jamie-dimon-economy-considerable-turbulence-trump-tariffs\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">cautioned in April<\/a><\/span> that Mr. Trump&#8217;s tariffs could slow economic growth, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/qxcmnQAlfWU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told CNBC<\/a> three months later that the tariffs had been &#8220;greatly moderated.&#8221; He also supported the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2025\/07\/31\/jpmorgan-ceo-jamie-dimon-the-tax-bill-created-a-stable-tax-environment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">tax provisions<\/a> in the Trump-backed One Big Beautiful Bill Act.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Mr. Trump signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/08\/guaranteeing-fair-banking-for-all-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">executive order<\/a> earlier this year directing federal regulators to combat alleged &#8220;debanking&#8221; of conservatives by financial institutions. JPMorgan Chase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/19617\/000162828025048859\/jpm-20250930.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reported this month<\/a> that it was &#8220;responding to requests from government authorities&#8221; regarding its internal policies.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jamie-dimon-on-the-economy-billionaires-and-income-inequality\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Dimon told<\/a><\/span> &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; he understood why Mr. Trump won in 2024, and believed people had &#8220;legitimate concerns&#8221; about issues like immigration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People were angry at whatever they called the state \u2013 the &#8216;swamp.&#8217; Ineffective government. That people wanted kind of more pro-growth and pro-business policies, that they didn&#8217;t want to be lectured to on social policies continuously,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<section
