He was arrested in 2023 while live-streaming himself driving around former President Barack Obama&#8217;s D.C. neighborhood while armed, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jan-6-obama-justice-department-capitol-mccarthy-27934bbd095111e7eb2bac5b5bb24e06\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to prosecutors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-medium\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets2.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/r\/2025\/10\/30\/69410e22-f5d9-49b9-97de-225b3e060dc9\/thumbnail\/620x442\/797a1c4258a9d15d6025680a14f9b019\/screenshot-2025-10-29-at-9-24-09-pm.png#\" alt=\"screenshot-2025-10-29-at-9-24-09-pm.png \" height=\"442\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets2.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/r\/2025\/10\/30\/69410e22-f5d9-49b9-97de-225b3e060dc9\/thumbnail\/620x442\/797a1c4258a9d15d6025680a14f9b019\/screenshot-2025-10-29-at-9-24-09-pm.png 1x\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/span><figcaption class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__caption\">An image from Taylor Taranto&#8217;s indictment that allegedly shows him on Jan. 6.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.257469\/gov.uscourts.dcd.257469.155.0_5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">filing<\/a> \u2014 which asked a judge to sentence Taranto to 27 months in prison at a hearing Thursday \u2014 mentioned Taranto&#8217;s Jan. 6 charges and briefly described the events of that day, writing that &#8220;thousands of people comprising a mob of rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That unsparing description of the Capitol riot was notable, as Mr. Trump <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-january-6-univision-town-hall\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">has called Jan. 6<\/a><\/span> a &#8220;day of love&#8221; and <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-executive-orders-day-one-january-6\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">referred to the rioters<\/a><\/span> as &#8220;hostages.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The filing also said Taranto drove to Obama&#8217;s neighborhood shortly after Mr. Trump posted the former president&#8217;s purported address on Truth Social and Taranto shared the post.<\/p>\n<p>Hours after the sentencing memo was submitted, two prosecutors whose names appear on it were placed on leave, CBS News has confirmed. U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro, a former Fox News host and staunch Trump backer, was also listed on the filing.<\/p>\n<p>Then, later Wednesday, a new, <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.257469\/gov.uscourts.dcd.257469.158.0_1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shorter<\/a> sentencing memo appeared in the federal court database with the references to the Jan. 6 riot and Mr. Trump&#8217;s post about Obama now omitted. Two different federal prosecutors were listed at the bottom of the filing, along with Pirro.<\/p>\n<p>Pirro said in a statement to CBS News: &#8220;While we don&#8217;t comment on personnel decisions, we want to make very clear that we take violence and threats of violence against law enforcement, current or former government officials extremely seriously.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have and will continue to vigorously pursue justice against those who commit or threaten violence without regard to the political party of the offender or the target,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump granted clemency to more than 1,500 accused and convicted Capitol rioters shortly after returning to the Oval Office earlier this year. The near-blanket pardons drew outrage from Democratic lawmakers and <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-pardons-jan-6-district-court-judges\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">pushback from some federal judges<\/a><\/span> who accused the president of downplaying the event and perpetuating a &#8220;revisionist myth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Taranto is one of several pardon recipients who have faced prosecution for non-Jan. 6 crimes. Earlier this month, a pardoned rioter was <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/pardoned-capitol-rioter-charged-threatening-hakeem-jeffries-nyc-trump\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">charged with allegedly threatening<\/a><\/span> House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Others have been accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/zachary-alam-january-6-capitol-riot-burglary-44936751dc13364d5e64bf52f65d51aa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">burglary<\/a> and &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/indiana-man-killed-trump-pardon-matthew-huttle-8c674e76c8e3c5ef1610ed29d0669050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow
