That suggests Mangione may not face his Pennsylvania trial until after his federal case is concluded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The judge gave Mangione and his defense attorneys 14 days to file a formal request for an in-person hearing or to reconsider appearing remotely.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Mangione has asserted his right to appear in person<\/h2>\n<p>Mangione was scheduled to appear in a Pennsylvania court on Nov. 7 but the hearing was canceled after his defense team asserted his right to appear in person for his court hearings. The federal government had denied his request to appear in Blair County, making him available to attend remotely instead.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, that hearing was put on hold and the court must now be updated every 60 days on his ability to appear.<\/p>\n<p>Mangione\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/luigi-mangione-arraigned-altoona-pennsylvania-united-healthcare-ceo-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">was arrested in Altoona, Penn. on Dec. 9, 2024<\/a><\/span>. He faces several charges there, including carrying a firearm without a license, forgery, tampering with records or identification, false identification to law enforcement, and possessing instruments of crime, according to the criminal complaint. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He faces additional federal charges, which <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/luigi-mangiones-lawyers-want-death-penalty-off-the-table-in-unitedhealthcare-ceo-murder-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">carry the possibility of the death penalty<\/a><\/span>, and <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/luigi-mangione-ceo-shooting-trial-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">state murder and weapons charges<\/a><\/span> in the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/midtown-manhattan-shooting-hilton-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">killing of Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel<\/a><\/span> last winter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The shooting <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-shot-maps-and-timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">prompted a dayslong manhunt for Thompson&#8217;s killer<\/a><\/span>, stretching <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompson-murder-investigation-nypd-central-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">through Central Park<\/a><\/span> to <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-shot-nyc-hostel\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">a hostel
