And most say in the last few weeks, prices of the goods and services they buy have still been going up. Most expect them to keep rising, at least a little, too. (This, despite relatively better assessments of what&#8217;s happening with gas prices.)<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets3.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/98d27aed-995e-4554-a173-abb5cbf0f6c7\/price-expectations.png#\" alt=\"price-expectations.png \" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets3.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/98d27aed-995e-4554-a173-abb5cbf0f6c7\/price-expectations.png 1x\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/span><figcaption class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__caption\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Job market<\/h2>\n<p>Just over half call the job market bad, and that&#8217;s a tougher evaluation than Americans gave six months ago when views were more mixed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of that may be driven by prospective outlook. Most who are currently employed do feel at least somewhat, if not very, secure in their jobs right now. Yet most Americans think if they were <em>looking<\/em> for a job, it would be difficult to find the kind of job they want.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets1.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/3d5dee69-0bd9-435d-84b9-e3ed0db92487\/job-mkt-rating.png#\" alt=\"job-mkt-rating.png \" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets1.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/3d5dee69-0bd9-435d-84b9-e3ed0db92487\/job-mkt-rating.png 1x\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/span><figcaption class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__caption\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When asking them to compare longer-term job market trends they&#8217;re seeing, the picture is mixed, and the jobs market is not seen as growing. By 4 to 1, Americans think there are fewer \u2014 not more \u2014 good jobs where they live than there were five years ago, and the rest see it holding steady. Even workers who feel they have some job security tend to think there are fewer, not more, good jobs out there.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As is often the case with economic evaluations, partisanship plays a role. Republicans are less likely than Democrats to hold negative views of the job market and the economy overall.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets3.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/e099b490-21f3-403a-8154-c6dbe368fbb8\/good-jobs-vs-5-yrs-ago.png#\" alt=\"good-jobs-vs-5-yrs-ago.png \" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets3.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/e099b490-21f3-403a-8154-c6dbe368fbb8\/good-jobs-vs-5-yrs-ago.png 1x\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/span><figcaption class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__caption\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As an ongoing string of discussions and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/how-is-artificial-intelligence-affecting-job-searches\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">reports<\/a> speak to the potential <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/ai-artificial-intelligence-work-trade-jobs\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">impact<\/a><\/span> of AI across a number of fields and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/linkedin-study-finds-workers-torn-on-ai-in-the-workplace\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">workplace<\/a>, Americans overall hold a skeptical outlook, on balance. They feel AI will have a net-negative effect on job availability in their fields over the next ten years. This is the case for those currently working as well as those not.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets3.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/56805a93-fb73-42d7-8f45-e2e7fbe2ab97\/ai-on-jobs.png#\" alt=\"ai-on-jobs.png \" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets3.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2025\/10\/02\/56805a93-fb73-42d7-8f45-e2e7fbe2ab97\/ai-on-jobs.png 1x\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/span><figcaption class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__caption\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Given that, more broadly, many believe the development of AI and AI companies will have a negative impact on the U.S. economy overall.
