The company said it would roll out the service in U.S. Uber Eats pilot markets by the end of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Uber aims to build the world&#8217;s most flexible, multimodal delivery network \u2014 expanding beyond cars, bikes and couriers to sidewalk robots and now autonomous aerial delivery,&#8221; Uber said in its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/investor.uber.com\/news-events\/news\/press-release-details\/2025\/Uber-Partners-with-Flytrex-to-Launch-Drone-Delivery\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The company, known for its ride-sharing services, said it would also invest in Flytrex to &#8220;to accelerate the development and deployment of drone delivery technology&#8221; without specifying the size of the investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Flytrex drones have flown over 200,000 meals to suburban households in the past three years, according to Uber. It is one of four companies authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct &#8220;Beyond Visual Line of Sight&#8221; operations, which is when a pilot cannot see the aircraft with the naked eye.<\/p>\n<p>Uber did not immediately respond to CBS MoneyWatch&#8217;s comment seeking information on where the service will be piloted and how deliveries will work.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement marks another advancement for Uber, which in May started delivering food\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.serverobotics.com\/uber-eats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">via sidewalk robots<\/a> in Los Angeles. Last week, the company announced plans to let customers\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/uber-joby-blade-helicopter-rides-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">book helicopter rides<\/a><\/span>\u00a0through its ride-sharing app.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Uber shares have climbed more than 50% since the start of the year.<\/p>\n<h2>Drones enter mainstream<\/h2>\n<p>Other companies have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs42.com\/news\/business\/ap-delivery-drones-are-coming-to-more-us-neighborhoods-after-getting-off-to-a-slow-start\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">waded into drone delivery<\/a> as the technology becomes <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/drone-delivery-services-competing-for-customers-who-want-items-quickly\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">more mainstream<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DoorDash, one of Uber Eats&#8217; competitors, announced a partnership with Flytrex in June to deliver food in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chipotle is also piloting drone technology in the Texas city.
