Kennedy said there were lots of guns when he was a kid.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy said there are &#8220;many, many&#8221; things that happened in the 1990s, but one of them is the increased use of psychiatric drugs, Kennedy said. We&#8217;re bringing transparency and research to this critical connection,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the FDA told Pfizer and Moderna to expand the warning labels for their COVID vaccines to include risk of a possible heart injury side effect.<\/p>\n<p>The rates were still low, however. For example, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fda-covid-vaccine-mrna-heart-side-effects-warning-label\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">the rate of myocarditis and pericarditis<\/a><\/span> (an inflammation of the heart muscle and membrane surrounding the heart) was around 8 cases per million doses for children and adults under 65 years old after use of the 2023-2024 season vaccines, the FDA says.<\/p>\n<p>The new warnings ordered by the FDA add that the &#8220;highest estimated incidence was in males 16 through 25 years of age,&#8221; with a rate of 38 cases per million.<\/p>\n<p>Vaccines have <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/how-many-lives-vaccines-have-saved\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">vastly reduced deaths<\/a><\/span> in early childhood and largely eradicated certain diseases that used to cause dreaded epidemics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(24)00850-X\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">study<\/a> led by the World Health Organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/24-04-2024-global-immunization-efforts-have-saved-at-least-154-million-lives-over-the-past-50-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">estimates<\/a> that vaccines, including immunizations against <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/how-the-fight-against-polio-was-won\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">polio<\/a><\/span>, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/measles-outbreak-vaccine-we-are-victims-of-our-success\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">measles<\/a><\/span> and 12 other once-common diseases, have saved an estimated 154 million lives worldwide over the past 50 years. Measles vaccines alone have averted the deaths of about 94 million people, the analysis found.<\/p>\n<p>After previously downplaying the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/measles-us-cases-record-high-since-1992\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">record-breaking measles outbreak<\/a><\/span> and making several <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/how-many-lives-vaccines-have-saved\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">false and misleading claims<\/a><\/span> about the safety of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, Kennedy eventually <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/rfk-jr-measles-vaccine-deadly-texas-outbreak\/\"
