That followed <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/heloc-and-home-equity-loan-rates-falling-again-what-to-do-next\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">earlier drops this summer<\/a><\/span> that have now put home equity loans on par with <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/what-is-a-heloc\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">home equity lines of credit (HELOCs)<\/a><\/span> as two of the cheaper ways to borrow money right now.<\/p>\n<p>Still, a low interest rate shouldn&#8217;t be the only motivation for borrowing, particularly when pursuing a home equity loan which uses your home as collateral in these exchanges. Failure to repay could ultimately lead to <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/can-you-lose-your-home-with-a-home-equity-loan\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">foreclosure on the property<\/a><\/span>.
