{"id":44315,"date":"2025-08-18T17:15:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T17:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/measles-outbreak-is-over-in-texas-state-health-officials-declare\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T17:15:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T17:15:13","slug":"measles-outbreak-is-over-in-texas-state-health-officials-declare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/measles-outbreak-is-over-in-texas-state-health-officials-declare\/","title":{"rendered":"Measles outbreak is over in Texas, state health officials declare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>The <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/measles-outbreak-us-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Texas measles outbreak<\/a><\/span>\u00a0that sickened hundreds of people earlier this year is officially over, according to state health officials.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Department of State Health Services declared in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dshs.texas.gov\/news-alerts\/texas-announces-end-west-texas-measles-outbreak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">news release<\/a>\u00a0Monday the end of this year&#8217;s measles outbreak centered in West Texas, after more than 42 days passed since any new reported case in counties with previous evidence of ongoing transmission.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;DSHS will continue to monitor for new cases but will cease updating the interactive outbreak dashboard,&#8221; the statement said, adding 42 days with no new cases is when public health professionals consider an outbreak over because it is double the disease&#8217;s maximum incubation period.<\/p>\n<p>Since the outbreak began in late January, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dshs.texas.gov\/news-alerts\/measles-outbreak-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">762 cases<\/a> of measles have been confirmed in Texas, with more than two-thirds of them among children.\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/texas-measles-outbreak-second-child-death-unvaccinated\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Two children<\/a><\/span>\u00a0who were not vaccinated died.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to highlight the tireless work of the public health professionals across the state who contributed to the containment of one of the most contagious viruses. We arrived at this point through a comprehensive outbreak response that included testing, vaccination, disease monitoring and educating the public about measles through awareness campaigns,&#8221; DSHS Commissioner Dr. Jennife Shuford said in the release. &#8220;I also want to recognize the many health care professionals who identified and treated cases of a virus that most providers had never seen in person before this outbreak.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though the outbreak is declared over in the state, the release warned that there are still ongoing outbreaks in the United States and it is &#8220;likely that there will be additional cases of measles this year in Texas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Health care providers should continue to be vigilant and test for measles if their patient has symptoms compatible with the virus,&#8221; the release stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/what-is-measles-mmr-vaccine-symptoms\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Measles<\/a><\/span>\u00a0is one of the most contagious infectious diseases, and in some cases, can cause\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/signs-symptoms\/?CDC_AAref_Val=https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/symptoms\/complications.html#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">severe infections<\/a>\u00a0in the lungs and brain that can lead to cognitive issues, deafness or death.
