The product had to be identical in brand name, size, weight, color and model number, and had to be sold and fulfilled by Amazon or Walmart, according to the Target policy.<\/p>\n<p>After July 28, customers will only be able to request a price match for products sold at either Target or Target.com, not competitors Amazon and Walmart, according to a Target spokesperson. The company said that it&#8217;s ending price matching for products sold by the two rival retailers because &#8220;guests overwhelmingly price match Target and not other retailers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Target <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.target.com\/press\/release\/2013\/01\/target-announces-new-year-round-price-match-of-online-retailers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">introduced<\/a> its competitor price match policy in 2013. At the time, former Target CEO and president Gregg Steinhafel said the policy provided &#8220;unbeatable value.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other retailers that have price matching policies include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestbuy.com\/site\/help-topics\/price-match-guarantee\/pcmcat290300050002.c?id=pcmcat290300050002\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Best Buy<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/c\/price-match-and-price-check\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Home Depot<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walmart.com\/help\/article\/walmart-price-match-policy\/6295d9e1a501489b9aa40a60c899b288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Walmart<\/a> also has a price matching policy, although it&#8217;s for Walmart.com, not competitors.<\/p>\n<p>Target&#8217;s decision to end its price matching policy comes as the retailer is struggling to boost sales and store traffic. In its most recent earnings <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.target.com\/press\/release\/2025\/05\/target-corporation-reports-first-quarter-earnings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">report<\/a> released in May, the company reported a nearly 3% decline in sales during the first quarter compared to the same time last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Target CEO Brian Cornell said the retailer was navigating an &#8220;exceptionally challenging environment,&#8221; citing declining consumer confidence and uncertainty around tariffs as some of the headwinds.<\/p>\n<p>Other retailers are also facing challenges as consumers <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/abercrombie-walmart-target-trump-tariff-inflation-eb6d0f4d986f343996c90eef8c5f488a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pull back on spending<\/a>.
