In its request, it says the soy protein is not expected to be detected in the final color additive and therefore will not cause allergic reactions. The FDA says it is still <a href=\"https:\/\/public-inspection.federalregister.gov\/2025-13175.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reviewing the request<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Every day, children are exposed to synthetic chemicals in food that serve no purpose and threaten their health,&#8221; Health Secretary <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fda-artificial-food-dyes-rfk-jr\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/a><\/span> said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/news-releases\/1090659\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a news release<\/a>. &#8220;The FDA&#8217;s approval of gardenia blue shows we&#8217;re finally putting kids first. Thanks to Dr. Marty Makary&#8217;s bold leadership, we&#8217;re cutting through industry influence and taking decisive action to Make America Healthy Again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The FDA says this marks the fourth color derived from natural sources approved by the administration for use in foods in the last two months.<\/p>\n<p>In May, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fda-approves-3-natural-food-colors\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">three other colors were approved<\/a><\/span>, including galdieria extract blue, calcium phosphate (white) and butterfly pea flower extract (blues, purples and greens).<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy previously called on companies to <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fda-artificial-food-dyes-rfk-jr\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">phase out<\/a><\/span> all petroleum-based dyes by the end of next year, with the goal to replace them with natural alternatives in the U.S. food supply.<\/p>\n<p>The food dye industry has denied any safety concerns with artificial dyes.
