{"id":37721,"date":"2025-07-11T17:36:52","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T17:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/covid-cases-likely-rising-in-half-of-states-cdc-estimates\/"},"modified":"2025-07-11T17:36:52","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T17:36:52","slug":"covid-cases-likely-rising-in-half-of-states-cdc-estimates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/covid-cases-likely-rising-in-half-of-states-cdc-estimates\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID cases likely rising in half of states, CDC estimates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Cases of <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/feature\/coronavirus\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">COVID-19<\/a><\/span> are now likely growing in 25 states, according to estimates published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/tag\/centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> on Friday, as this year&#8217;s summer wave of the virus appears to be getting underway.<\/p>\n<p>The agency&#8217;s modeling suggests that the uptick is in &#8220;many&#8221; Southeast, Southern and West Coast states, the CDC said in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/respiratory-viruses\/data\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">weekly update<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 activity nationwide, however, is still considered &#8220;low,&#8221; based on data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nwss\/rv\/COVID19-national-data.html#national-region-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wastewater samples<\/a>, although that is up from &#8220;very low&#8221; the week before.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the highest rates of COVID-19 in emergency rooms are in the Pacific Northwest, which saw a steep rise in ER visits during June, and in the Southeast, which has seen rates steadily inch up for weeks. Rates are now the highest they&#8217;ve been since February and March in those regions.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials have been watching for an increase in COVID-19 this summer, as <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/us-reports-cases-new-covid-variant-nb-1-8-1-behind-surge-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">new variants<\/a><\/span> have <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/covid-variant-nb-1-8-1-symptoms-booster-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">spread to the U.S.<\/a><\/span> after fueling surges overseas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A CDC analysis <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwnc.cdc.gov\/eid\/article\/31\/8\/25-0451_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">published Thursday<\/a> concluded that the virus has settled into twice-a-year surges nationwide, typically peaking first in July through September and then a second time later in December through February.<\/p>\n<p>Those surges look to be linked to cycles of genetic changes to a part of the virus that scientists call the S1 region, a key part of the spike protein of the virus that binds to human cells.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our analysis revealed biannual COVID-19 peaks in late summer and winter, a pattern that is expected to persist as long as the rapid evolution of SARS-CoV-2 and cyclical S1 diversity continues,&#8221; the scientists wrote in the CDC analysis.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19&#8217;s rise comes as health officials have been probing reports of an unusual uptick in another respiratory virus called parvovirus B19. While many people develop no symptoms from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/han\/2024\/han00514.html#:~:text=Although%20many%20people,infectiousness)%20have%20declined.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">parvovirus B19<\/a> infections, some people get sick with signs like fever and muscle pains, followed by a rash.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/74\/wr\/mm7423a3.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">warned<\/a> late last month of a &#8220;sustained increase&#8221; in transmission of parvovirus B19, and suggested that pregnant women consider masking to curb the risk of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/parvovirus-b19\/about\/parvovirus-b19-in-pregnancy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">severe complications<\/a>.
