{"id":36899,"date":"2025-07-07T13:18:45","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T13:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/inclusive-theater-program-in-queens-spotlights-adults-with-disabilities\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T13:18:45","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T13:18:45","slug":"inclusive-theater-program-in-queens-spotlights-adults-with-disabilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/inclusive-theater-program-in-queens-spotlights-adults-with-disabilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Inclusive theater program in Queens spotlights adults with disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>A Queens theater program is bringing big energy and even bigger heart to the stage as adults with disabilities dazzle with talent, teamwork and a whole lot of joy.<\/p>\n<h2>QCP Players Program celebrating debut performance<\/h2>\n<p>A red dress and a sparkly headband are all it takes to transform Queens native Tyaisha Blake-Lochard into the Roald Dahl character Veruca Salt.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s keeping her composure before the big performance of &#8220;Willy Wonka&#8221; at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queenscp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Queens Centers for Progress<\/a>\u00a0(QCP), an organization that provides resources and support for individuals with developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m just a little nervous, but I&#8217;m hanging in there,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know that they feel like an actor in a Broadway show feels on their opening day,&#8221; QCP executive director Terri Ross said.<\/p>\n<p>The show marks a debut for the QCP Players Program, a partnership with inclusive performing arts nonprofit <a href=\"https:\/\/ahhabroadway.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AhHa!Broadway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are not only performers but also set painters, stage crew and ushers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Maurice Agard, who plays the title role, looks forward to seeing his parents in the audience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re going to love it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8220;They have blossomed&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>Over 12 weeks of rehearsals, organizers have witnessed improvements in focus, energy, creativity and collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They have blossomed. They have become more animated, and also have become more closer with working together with other people because they realize it&#8217;s part of a team,&#8221; adult day services director Josie Davide said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Literally, like, between goosebumps and tears sitting here watching them. It&#8217;s just heartwarming,&#8221; QCP director of development Wendy Gennaro said.<\/p>\n<p>Davide is eager to share the group&#8217;s talent and joy with audiences.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want them to
