{"id":34269,"date":"2025-06-23T16:16:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T16:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/novo-nordisk-halts-wegovy-sales-on-hims-hers-claiming-deceptive-marketing-practices\/"},"modified":"2025-06-23T16:16:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T16:16:19","slug":"novo-nordisk-halts-wegovy-sales-on-hims-hers-claiming-deceptive-marketing-practices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/novo-nordisk-halts-wegovy-sales-on-hims-hers-claiming-deceptive-marketing-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"Novo Nordisk halts Wegovy sales on Hims &#038; Hers, claiming &#8220;deceptive marketing&#8221; practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Novo Nordisk is pulling the plug on its partnership with Hims &amp; Hers Health over claims that the telehealth company sold fake versions of the pharmaceutical firm&#8217;s weight-loss drug, Wegovy.<\/p>\n<p>The Danish drugmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/novo-nordisk-terminates-collaboration-with-hims--hers-health-inc-due-to-concerns-about-their-illegal-mass-compounding-and-deceptive-marketing-302488189.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0Monday that Wegovy will no longer be available on Hims &amp; Hers and that it is ending the collaboration because the San Francisco-based online health company sold &#8220;illegitimate, knockoff versions of Wegovy that put patient safety at risk.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Novo Nordisk&#8217;s move to dissolve the partnership came less than two months after the companies\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.hims.com\/newsroom\/hims-hers-and-novo-nordisk-team-up-to-expand-affordable-access-to-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0they were entering a &#8220;long-term collaboration&#8221; to make obesity treatment more accessible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Hims &amp; Hers plunged more than $20, or roughly 31%, to $44.10 following Novo Nordisk&#8217;s announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hims &amp; Hers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Novo Nordisk said it began selling Wegovy via telehealth companies, including Hims &amp; Hers, after a nationwide shortage of the drug. In offering the drug through more retailers, Novo Nordisk said it wanted to shift patients from using &#8220;knock-off, compounded versions&#8221; of Wegovy to the Food and Drug Administration-approved semaglutide drug.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After over one month into the collaboration, Hims &amp; Hers Health, Inc. has failed to adhere to the law which prohibits mass sales of compounded drugs under the false guise of &#8216;personalization&#8217; and are disseminating deceptive marketing that put patient safety at risk,&#8221; a Novo Nordisk spokesperson told CBS MoneyWatch. &#8220;This is unacceptable, and that is why we have decided to end the collaboration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The FDA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/news-events\/press-announcements\/fda-approves-first-treatment-reduce-risk-serious-heart-problems-specifically-adults-obesity-or\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">approved<\/a> Wegovy for adults with obesity in March 2024, adding it to an expanding market of weight-loss drugs that include Ozempic and Mounjaro. Demand for GLP-1 drugs, which are used to treat diabetes and weight loss, has surged in recent years, with one in eight U.S. adults saying they&#8217;ve used the treatments, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/health-costs\/poll-finding\/kff-health-tracking-poll-may-2024-the-publics-use-and-views-of-glp-1-drugs\/#:~:text=Overall%2C%2012%25%20of%20adults%20say,have%20diabetes%20or%20heart%20disease).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according<\/a> to health research publisher KFF.<\/p>\n<p>In its release, Novo Nordisk said a company investigation showed that the ingredients in knock-off drugs sold by telehealth entities and compounding pharmacies are manufactured by foreign suppliers in China and that a large share of the drugs were never inspected by the FDA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;U.S. patients should not be exposed to knock-off drugs made with unsafe and illicit foreign ingredients,&#8221; Novo Nordisk said.<\/p>\n<p>Novo Nordisk will continue to sell Wegovy on other telehealth platforms that &#8220;share our commitment to patient safety,&#8221; said Dave Moore, executive vice president at Novo Nordisk, in the company&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/novo-nordisk-terminates-collaboration-with-hims--hers-health-inc-due-to-concerns-about-their-illegal-mass-compounding-and-deceptive-marketing-302488189.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a>.
