A <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JDVance\/status\/1493575391457517568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">longstanding backer<\/a> of cryptocurrencies, Vance owned between $250,000 and $500,000 worth of Bitcoin, according to an August <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jd-vance-net-worth-2024\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">2024 financial disclosure<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Las Vegas event will feature a <a href=\"https:\/\/b.tc\/conference\/2025\/agenda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">handful of other Trump backers<\/a>: His two eldest sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, who have invested in crypto ventures, are speaking Wednesday on a panel about &#8220;the rise of new bitcoin business models.&#8221; Chris LaCivita, who co-managed Mr. Trump&#8217;s 2024 campaign, and David Sacks, a venture capitalist who serves as the White House&#8217;s <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-cryptocurrencies-new-us-strategic-reserve\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">crypto czar<\/a><\/span>, spoke on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Vance is the highest-ranking sitting politician to address the Bitcoin Conference, which describes itself as &#8220;the world&#8217;s largest gathering of bitcoiners&#8221; and often draws crypto-friendly lawmakers. Mr. Trump, then a presidential candidate, was the headline speaker last year.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin \u2014 and cryptocurrency more generally \u2014 has <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/crypto-spent-big-money-to-reshape-the-political-landscape-60-minutes-transcript\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">grown in prominence<\/a><\/span> and drawn allies from both parties, despite <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/bitcoin-going-up-100k\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">skepticism<\/a><\/span> about its volatility. The price of Bitcoin, the world&#8217;s most widely used cryptocurrency, has leaped nearly 60% in the last year.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump was once a crypto skeptic, calling Bitcoin a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-57392734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">scam<\/a>&#8221; whose value is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1149472282584072192?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">based on thin air<\/a>.&#8221; But in his second term, he has enthusiastically boosted crypto and promised to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/01\/fact-sheet-executive-order-to-establish-united-states-leadership-in-digital-financial-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reverse<\/a> strict Biden-era regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump and his family also have financial interests in crypto, which makes up $2.9 billion of his net worth, according to <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-family-net-worth-crypto-investments\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">one recent report<\/a><\/span>. Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, announced <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.tmtgcorp.com\/news-events\/press-releases\/#b2iLibScrollTo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tuesday<\/a> it is raising $2.5 billion to invest in Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, businesses linked to the president launched a Trump-branded &#8220;meme coin&#8221; earlier this year, and Mr. Trump <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/donald-trump-meme-coin-crypto-dinner\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">hosted the digital currency&#8217;s top investors<\/a><\/span> at his Virginia golf club last week. The president and his sons are linked to crypto exchange <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-crypto-exchange-world-liberty-financial\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">World Liberty Financial<\/a><\/span>.
