But he did not entirely rule out spending on political campaigns and causes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If I see a reason to do political spending in the future, I will do it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I do not currently see a reason.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Musk, tasked by President Trump to informally oversee the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/100-days-of-doge-elon-musk-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Department of Government Efficiency<\/a><\/span>, has come under intense scrutiny for his leadership in the chaotic government cuts. And one of his companies, Tesla, has suffered in the time he was away \u2014 in the first quarter of the year, the company&#8217;s net income <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/tesla-earnings-call-today-elon-musk-doge\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">plummeted <\/a><\/span>71%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Musk said on a call last month to discuss the company&#8217;s earnings that he planned to scale back his time spent on DOGE. Musk has not been physically present at the White House as frequently since the end of April.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the billionaire has also seen some benefits for his other companies. Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/why-elon-musk-other-business-leaders-are-in-saudi-arabia-during-trumps-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">accompanied<\/a> Mr. Trump on the president&#8217;s\u00a0trip to the Middle East last week and announced his satellite company Starlink has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/05\/13\/elon-musk-starlink-saudi-arabia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">approved<\/a> for maritime and aviation use in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>
