{"id":25863,"date":"2025-05-15T04:16:51","date_gmt":"2025-05-15T04:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/bondi-sold-at-least-1-million-in-trump-media-shares-on-liberation-day-documents-show\/"},"modified":"2025-05-15T04:16:51","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T04:16:51","slug":"bondi-sold-at-least-1-million-in-trump-media-shares-on-liberation-day-documents-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/bondi-sold-at-least-1-million-in-trump-media-shares-on-liberation-day-documents-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Bondi sold at least $1 million in Trump Media shares on &#8220;Liberation Day,&#8221; documents show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Attorney General Pam Bondi sold at least $1 million worth of shares in the company that owns Truth Social on the same day that President Trump announced his sweeping tariff measures, a government ethics transaction report shows.<\/p>\n<p>Bondi&#8217;s stake in the company, Trump Media, was worth somewhere between $1 million and $5.5 million at the time of the sale, which occurred on April 2, the day Mr. Trump dubbed &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221; in which he <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-liberation-day-new-tariffs-us\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">announced his wide-ranging tariffs <\/a><\/span>on goods imported from all foreign countries, according to the document obtained Wednesday by CBS News.<\/p>\n<p>The day after the sale, the stock&#8217;s value dropped more than ten percent before <a href=\"http:\/\/recovering.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recovering.<\/a> Trump Media&#8217;s stock sold for $52 at its highest but closed at $26 per share on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a December financial disclosure, Bondi said that she held stock in Trump Media that was worth over $3.9 million at the time, shares that she received as compensation for consulting services for the company.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department did not immediately respond to questions about the sale and its timing, which was first reported by ProPublica.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Mr. Trump&#8217;s social networking site Truth Social, <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/sec.irpass.cc\/2660\/0001140361-25-004822.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a> it lost $400.9 million in 2024, while its annual revenue declined 12% to $3.6 million.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which trades under a ticker with Mr. Trump&#8217;s initials \u2014 DJT \u2014 said a &#8220;significant portion&#8221; of its revenue decline was caused by a change in a revenue-sharing agreement with an advertising partner, which it didn&#8217;t disclose.<\/p>\n<p>After winning the presidential election in November, Mr. Trump in December transferred all of his shares \u2014 worth around $4 billion on paper \u2014 as a &#8220;bona fide gift&#8221; to the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust. Mr. Trump&#8217;s shares amounted to more than half of the company&#8217;s stock.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/donald-trump-jr-washington-power-broker\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Donald Trump Jr.<\/a><\/span>, the oldest of the president&#8217;s five children, is the sole trustee and has sole voting and investment power over all securities owned by the trust.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump created Truth Social after he was banned from X, then called Twitter, and Facebook, following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. He <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/x-reaches-10-million-dollar-settlement-with-trump-over-prior-suspension-of-twitter-account\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">has since<\/a><\/span> been reinstated to both.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In February, X, now owned by billionaire Elon Musk \u2014 who heads up the White House&#8217;s Department of Government Efficiency and was a major donor to Mr. Trump&#8217;s presidential campaign \u2013 paid $10 million to settle a lawsuit brought by Mr. Trump over the suspension.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In January, Meta, Facebook&#8217;s parent company, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/meta-trump-25-million-lawsuit-settlement\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">paid $25 million<\/a><\/span> to settle a similar lawsuit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- data-recirc-source=\"queryly\" --><\/p>\n<aside class=\"component list recirculation component--type-recirculation \">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>    <!-- tags --><\/p>\n<div class=\"content-author\">\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/team\/jacob-rosen\/\" class=\"content-author__name\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Jacob  Rosen<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"content-author__bio\">\n<div class=\"content-author__full-information\">\n<p class=\"content-author__text\">Jake Rosen is a reporter covering the Department of Justice.
