The latest numbers show that\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/cpi-report-today-april-2025-inflation-trump-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">inflation increased by just 2.3%<\/a><\/span> year-over-year in April, a rate that was better than experts expected and the lowest it&#8217;s been since early 2021. This means that the Federal Reserve is getting closer to the target rate of 2% inflation. And, when looking at the inflation data on a month-over-month basis, there&#8217;s even more good news to highlight: Prices only went up by 0.2% from March to April.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But what&#8217;s surprising is that while inflation has been cooling down, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/what-is-the-price-of-gold-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">gold prices<\/a><\/span> have remained hot since the start of the year \u2014 <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/how-has-golds-price-changed-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">breaking numerous records<\/a><\/span> over the last five months and recently <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/golds-price-per-ounce-breaks-3400-record-what-to-know-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">surpassing the $3,400 per ounce mark<\/a><\/span> for the first time ever. That, in turn, has been great for gold investors, who have been raking in the returns as gold prices have climbed.
