Ms. Lich and Mr. Barber will be sentenced at another hearing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The two were acquitted of other charges, including obstructing justice, intimidating the public and counseling others to commit offenses, according to the Justice Center for Constitutional Freedoms, a nonprofit that has helped in Mr. Barber\u2019s defense. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The group has criticized the length of the proceedings against the two defendants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIf Tamara Lich and Chris Barber had played a leadership role in organizing protests against racism, transphobia or climate change, they would not have faced 45 days of trial over a period of 31 months,\u201d John Carpay, the center\u2019s president, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The protests were known in Canada as the \u201cFreedom Convoy\u201d and<span class=\"css-8l6xbc evw5hdy0\">  <\/span>attracted a groundswell of support, particularly from the Western province of Alberta. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">It began as a grass-roots movement by truckers who faced vaccination requirements to cross the U.S. border. Mr. Barber owns a trucking company in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, while Ms. Lich describes herself as a political activist from Medicine Hat, Alberta, who helped raise funds to support the effort.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI love Canada, and no matter the outcome today, that will never change,\u201d Ms. Lich said in a post on X on Thursday morning before the verdict. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked a rare emergency order that allowed the authorities to take stronger measures against the protesters, including freezing their bank accounts and deploying immense police resources in Ottawa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Pat King, another key organizer, was <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/11\/22\/world\/canada\/pat-king-guilty-freedom-convoy-canada.html\" title=\"\">convicted of mischief<\/a> last year and was ultimately sentenced to three months of house arrest. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Similar blockades formed at border crossings in cities like Windsor, Ontario, across from Detroit, preventing trucks from carrying commerce across the bridges that link the two cities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">At another obstructed border crossing in Coutts, Alberta, the police found <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/09\/24\/world\/canada\/freedom-convoy-coutts-alberta.html\" title=\"\">a cache of weapons<\/a> and two men were later sentenced to six years in prison for
