The Detroit automakers&#8217; manufacturing plants and supply chains are spread across North America, so additional tariffs would raise their costs and crimp profits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tesla shares, which have slumped this year because of disappointing sales and <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/tesla-sales-elon-musk-reputation-brand-damage-trump-doge\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">consumer unhappiness<\/a><\/span> over CEO Elon Musk&#8217;s involvement with the Trump administration, fell nearly 6% and are down 33% this year. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Consumers are also likely to feel the sting of additional import duties. New tariffs on U.S. car imports could drive up vehicle costs <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/auto-tariffs-should-you-buy-a-car-now-2025-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">between $2,000 and $12,200<\/a><\/span> for some models, Anderson Economic Group has estimated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-video embed--type-content_video is-video embed--float-none embed--size-medium \"><figcaption class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n                              <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/canada-freezes-rebate-payments-to-tesla-according-to-reports\/\" class=\"embed__headline-link\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>          <span class=\"embed__icon\"><br \/>\n            <svg viewbox=\"0 0 32 32\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n              <use xlink:href=\"#icon-video\"\/>\n            <\/svg><br \/>\n          <\/span><\/p>\n<p>          <span class=\"embed__headline\">Canada freezes rebate payments on Teslas, according to reports<\/span><\/p>\n<p>          <span class=\"embed__video-duration\">05:32<\/span><\/p>\n<p>                      <\/a><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Beyond the impact on the auto sector, investors have been rattled by President Trump&#8217;s protectionist trade policies.
