Figma\u2019s chief executive, Dylan Field, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/12\/19\/business\/dealbook\/figma-deal-adobe.html\" title=\"\">has said<\/a> the regulatory scrutiny meant another sale was likely off the table.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Many bankers had expected antitrust enforcers under President Trump to take a laxer approach to mergers and acquisitions than those under the Biden administration. But in January, the Justice Department <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/30\/business\/dealbook\/hpe-juniper-deal-blocked.html\" title=\"\">blocked a deal<\/a> between Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Juniper Networks, suggesting continued scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Many tech companies instead appear to be gravitating to potentially going public. CoreWeave, a provider of cloud computing services for artificial intelligence, has filed for an offering and is set to be a test of Wall Street\u2019s appetite for A.I.-related companies. <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/05\/technology\/discord-ipo.html\" title=\"\">Discord<\/a>, a social chat app, and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/06\/technology\/figma-stubhub-ipo.html\" title=\"\">StubHub<\/a>, a ticketing software company, are in early discussions about a potential public offering this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">A spokesman for Figma declined to comment. Mr. Field <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/ai\/wsj-com-tech-wsj-tech-live-2024-8bdb1ddb?mod=tech_lead_pos1\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">said at a conference last year<\/a> that the company was on a path to going public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Founded in 2012 in San Francisco, Figma offers free, cloud-based tools and services for designers and developers. It <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/09\/15\/business\/adobe-figma-deal.html\" title=\"\">accepted Adobe\u2019s $20 billion acquisition offer<\/a> in 2022, with Adobe later paying Figma a $1 billion breakup fee when the deal ran aground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In the aftermath, Figma raised additional funding from investors including Coatue and General Catalyst <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-07-17\/coatue-general-catalyst-back-figma-at-12-5-billion-valuation\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">at a $12.5 billion valuation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In recent years, Figma has aimed to expand its product offerings and work on A.I. tools. Its products include an online whiteboard tool, FigJam, for users to brainstorm and collaborate on different projects, and Figma Slides, a PowerPoint-like product for creating presentations. In 2023, the company introduced its <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/12\/12\/23996534\/figma-creator-micro-macro-pad-price-release-dates-specs-features\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">first hardware product<\/a>, a keyboard for designers to program shortcuts to their most frequently used design tools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The products have helped fuel Figma\u2019s business globally. More than 85 percent of its weekly active users are outside the United States, according to Figma, and more than half of its revenue comes from international customers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Figma has said it wants to continue expanding beyond designers. Roughly two-thirds of its customers identify as something other than designers, and one-third of its user base are software developers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Figma has opened offices in New York, London, Tokyo, Paris and Berlin in recent years.
