\u2014\u00a0<\/strong>UnitedHealth Group on Thursday announced that a longtime employee in the company has been named the new leader of its health insurance arm, nearly two months after the <span Brian Thompson.<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tim Noel, who joined UHG in 2007 and most recently served as UnitedHealthcare Medicare &amp; Retirement&#8217;s chief executive officer, will become UnitedHealthcare&#8217;s CEO.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He brings unparalleled experience to this role with a proven track record and strong commitment to improving how health care works for consumers, physicians, employers, governments and our other partners,&#8221; UHG said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thompson, 50, was headed to a\u00a0<span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/minnesota-leaders-react-united-healthcare-ceo-brian-thompson\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">UnitedHealth Group investors conference<\/a><\/span>\u00a0at the Hilton Midtown in early December when the gunman fatally shot him, using a handgun modified with a silencer. Thompson most recently <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/brian-thompson-unitedhealthcare-ceo-manhattan-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">resided in Maple Grove, Minnesota.<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p>Following a five-day manhunt, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/luigi-mangione-healthcare-ceo-shooting-what-we-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Luigi Mangione<\/a><\/span>, 26, was arrested in a McDonald&#8217;s in Altoona, Pennsylvania after an employee called police.
