Polls show that <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/midterm-poll-battleground-tracker-democrats-house-advantage\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">most Americans are dissatisfied<\/a><\/span> with the state of the economy and frustrated with inflation, and the majority of voters blame the Trump administration&#8217;s policies.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump is more positive, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/10\/01\/with-republicans-in-trouble-trump-gives-himself-an-a-on-everything-01103762\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">giving his administration<\/a> an &#8220;A+&#8221; on the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about Mr. Trump&#8217;s characterization of the economy by &#8220;CBS Evening News&#8221; anchor Tony Dokoupil, Vance said: &#8220;I think that what the president is saying is that we are seeing all of these massive new investments come into our country. But he would be the first person to tell you that you gotta build the factories first, before you can employ the workers working in those factories.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think what we&#8217;re doing is, we&#8217;re turning the ship around,&#8221; the vice president continued.<\/p>\n<p><em>Watch CBS News&#8217; &#8220;Things That Matter: A Town Hall With Vice President JD Vance&#8221; on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. ET\/PT on the CBS Television Network or stream it on Paramount+.
