{"id":104139,"date":"2026-10-14T13:07:33","date_gmt":"2026-10-14T13:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/community-mourns-42-year-old-educator-who-died-in-fall-from-six-flags-roller-coaster-beloved-colleague-friend\/"},"modified":"2026-10-14T13:07:33","modified_gmt":"2026-10-14T13:07:33","slug":"community-mourns-42-year-old-educator-who-died-in-fall-from-six-flags-roller-coaster-beloved-colleague-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/community-mourns-42-year-old-educator-who-died-in-fall-from-six-flags-roller-coaster-beloved-colleague-friend\/","title":{"rendered":"Community mourns 42-year-old educator who died in fall from Six Flags roller coaster: &#8220;Beloved colleague, friend&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Friends and loved ones are mourning the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/atlanta\/news\/six-flags-over-georgia-goliath-deaths-update-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">man who fell<\/a><\/span> to his death Monday while riding a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses say Hassan Kariem was ejected from &#8220;The Goliath&#8221; and struck other passengers as he fell.<\/p>\n<p>The 42-year-old was an IT manager in the Atlanta Public Schools system, which is remembering him as a &#8220;cherished member&#8221; of the school community &#8220;whose presence and impact will be deeply missed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wesley International Academy, the Atlanta charter school where Kariem worked,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WesleyInternationalAcademy\/posts\/our-hearts-are-heavy-as-we-mourn-the-loss-of-a-cherished-member-of-our-wesley-fa\/1795506092045359\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described him<\/a> as &#8220;a beloved colleague, friend, and integral part of the Wesley family for more than 12 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Throughout his time at Wesley, Mr. Kariem served as our IT manager, a technology teacher, and a robotics coach, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues,&#8221; the school said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Family members told local media he was a passionate educator and had survived two bouts of cancer and a fiery car crash. They say he was at Six Flags with family when the horrific accident happened.<\/p>\n<p>Vanessa and Fred Sowemimo, who had just gotten off the same ride, described what they saw, saying Kariem &#8220;flew out of his seat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Others who were there were frantic, and some were crying, said Fred Sowemimo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was a young lady \u2026 she had, like, blood all over her white skirt, it was in that moment, at least for me, I was like, &#8216;Oh wow, this actually did happen,'&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>State investigators and the ride&#8217;s manufacturer, Bolliger &amp; Mabillard, are investigating the incident. Six Flags has temporarily <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/six-flags-ride-closures-georgia-roller-coaster-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">shut down<\/a><\/span> Goliath, as well as nine similar rides across six of its parks \u2014 temporary closures that are &#8220;out of an abundance of caution,&#8221; a spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Seaworld Orlando&#8217;s Mako roller coaster, which is also made by Bolliger &amp; Mabillard, has also shut down as a precaution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Miller, a theme park safety expert, said the closures are about taking a pause to see what comes out of the investigative report, and then reopening as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>For the Sowemimos, there is relief that they&#8217;re safe, but also heartbreak for Kariem&#8217;s family. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Someone did not go home yesterday. And I just want to say to pray for them,&#8221; said Vanessa Sowemimo. &#8220;Just pray for these people who were truly impacted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bolliger &amp; Mabillard said it is &#8220;deeply saddened by this tragic accident,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Our thoughts are with the family and those affected.&#8221; Six Flags also said it is &#8220;deeply saddened&#8221; and cooperating fully with
