{"id":103333,"date":"2026-10-09T17:33:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T17:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/spacex-says-starlink-is-set-to-become-a-major-mobile-carrier-after-spectrum-deal\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T17:33:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T17:33:14","slug":"spacex-says-starlink-is-set-to-become-a-major-mobile-carrier-after-spectrum-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.itshrt.com\/worldnews\/spacex-says-starlink-is-set-to-become-a-major-mobile-carrier-after-spectrum-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"SpaceX says Starlink is set to become a &#8220;major mobile carrier&#8221; after spectrum deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- ItShrt World News -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6606220950177433\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1882483372\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Elon Musk&#8217;s SpaceX has agreed to buy licenses for radio airwaves that will enable its Starlink Mobile satellite business to provide cellular service inside buildings, a move the company said will allow it to &#8220;become a major mobile carrier in the U.S.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the last critical piece of the spectrum puzzle needed for SpaceX to provide complete phone coverage in America,&#8221; Musk said in a social media\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/2108296168094544099?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a> on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX, a rocket developer and space exploration company, is buying the spectrum from investment firm Grain Management, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/sxcontent9668.azureedge.us\/cms-assets\/assets\/FCC_Narrative_10_8_26_f63e78e026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filing<\/a> with the Federal Communications Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Low-frequency radio spectrum can penetrate walls, overcoming an issue for Starlink&#8217;s satellites, as walls, roofs and other structures can weaken mobile phone signals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The spectrum purchase agreement, which still needs FCC approval, would allow Starlink to combine its satellite-to-mobile transmissions with &#8220;an advanced terrestrial deployment that can seamlessly connect devices everywhere,&#8221; according to the company&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/updates#starlink-mobile-spectrum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX added that the FCC has approved Starlink Mobile&#8217;s application to launch 15,000 satellites that will transmit radio waves in the 2 gigahertz band and connect directly to mobile phones.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These airwaves are compatible with existing handsets, and we do not foresee obstacles to regulatory approval,&#8221; UBS analyst John Hodulik said in a note to investors. &#8220;That said, we still believe it will take time for SpaceX to scale its wireless ambitions, and the impact to near-term wireless industry fundamentals is limited.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The announcement from SpaceX caused telecom companies&#8217; shares to tumble as investors considered the potential impact of a major new industry player. T-Mobile shares slid $18.58, or 11%, to $152.72 in morning trading on Friday, while AT&amp;T slipped $1.83, or 7.4%, to $22.76.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shares of SpaceX gained $2.61, or 1.6%, to
