Could Hispanic voters decide this election?<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s quite possible \u2014 or they could at least decide the size of a party&#8217;s congressional majority, either way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On balance, the percentage of Hispanic likely voters backing Republicans is lower than the percentage Mr. Trump got from Hispanic voters in the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/latino-voters-swing-toward-democrats-in-2025-after-trumps-2024-historic-gains\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">2024 presidential election<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\" data-ads=\"{\" extrawordcount=\"\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets2.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2026\/10\/03\/f9bfe13d-61f3-4edd-b7db-10f9f9303f83\/hispanic-vote.png#\" alt=\"hispanic-vote.png \" width=\"867\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets2.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2026\/10\/03\/f9bfe13d-61f3-4edd-b7db-10f9f9303f83\/hispanic-vote.png 1x\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/span><figcaption class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__caption\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>That could have an impact across a number of congressional districts, including (but not only) in many that were redistricted in the last year, <strong>since many of those districts aren&#8217;t as easy for Republicans to carry without holding the gains made in 2024.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As is the case for voters overall, the economy and inflation are most important to Hispanic voters. Views on their impact are comparable to voters overall.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\" data-ads=\"{\" extrawordcount=\"\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets3.cbsnewsstatic.com\/hub\/i\/2026\/10\/03\/621f18e0-ca25-4fa4-9341-dcd5616daa4f\/prices-all-hisp.png#\" alt=\"prices-all-hisp.png \" width=\"867\" height=\"488\" policies.<\/p>\n<p>Most Hispanic voters say the administration is deporting more people than they&#8217;d expected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed \u2013 they think Hispanic people are being subjected to more ICE deportation searches than people of other races and backgrounds.<\/p>\n<h2>6: Do Republicans need their candidates to agree with Trump?<\/h2>\n<p>More voters are voting to oppose President Trump than to support him.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Some Republican candidates have run ads or made statements about where they have differences with the administration on approach or focus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That may be appealing in principle: most Republicans want a candidate who mostly \u2014 but not always \u2014 agrees with Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\" data-ads=\"{\" extrawordcount=\"\">\n<p>      <span surrounding transgender athletes. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More voters prefer a candidate who takes the position that these athletes should only be allowed to play on a team that matches their sex at birth \u2014 and those voters are mostly voting Republican.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\" data-ads=\"{\" extrawordcount=\"\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Will Democrats really show up?<\/h2>\n<p>The gap in expressed turnout also raises a question for Democrats.
