rugged coast or skied in its mountains knows Maine can get windy.<br \/>But right now Maine&#8217;s Senate race\u00a0seems a bit insulated from the national <em>political<\/em> winds \u2014 which otherwise seem to favor the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/poll-trump-battleground-tracker-house-control-2026-midterm-elections\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Democrats<\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u2014 at least enough to keep incumbent Republican Susan Collins in a <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/feature\/2026-midterm-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">tied race<\/a><\/span> with Democrat <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/maine-democrats-new-senate-nominee-graham-platner-troy-jackson-susan-collins\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Troy Jackson<\/a><\/span> in a state that otherwise has a Democratic-leaning electorate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none Maine&#8217;s Democrats, while she is bolstered by those who say they&#8217;re voting more on state matters than national ones, to keep the race at a tie.<\/p>\n<p>And she has an edge on who would bring back more federal funds to Maine.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\" data-ads=\"{\" think Collins is too much in agreement with President Trump, as well as by voters specifically opposed to tariffs, by those trying to give national Democrats <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/key-senate-races-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">control of the Senate<\/a><\/span> and by those prioritizing <em>change<\/em> over <em>experience<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed__float-wrap\">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-image is-image embed--float-none embed--size-original\" data-ads=\"{\" extrawordcount=\"\">\n<p>      <span class=\"img embed__content \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"embed__caption-container\">\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__caption\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A sizable 10% of voters say they could still change their minds \u2014 another dynamic that underscores that this could still break either way.<\/p>\n<p>Even when voters think <em>Jackson&#8217;s<\/em> policies would make them financially better off, Collins gets almost one in five of those voters, too.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Maine&#8217;s voters do feel Trump&#8217;s policies have hurt the Maine economy. (Kamala Harris won the state.)
