The captain was able to fight off the co-pilot long enough to unlock the cockpit door. Passengers then overpowered the co-pilot, and two off-duty pilots who were on the flight managed to gain control of the aircraft and make an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>There were 174 people <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/flydubai-flight-israel-passengers-recount-alleged-terror-attack-hijack\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">aboard the plane<\/a><\/span>. No passengers were seriously injured in the incident. The pilot sustained stab wounds in the attack. After passengers subdued the co-pilot, he shouted for someone to kill him, Netanyahu told Fox News on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the same interview with Fox, Netanyahu said &#8220;personal information&#8221; gathered during ongoing questioning had led Israel to the conclusion that the co-pilot &#8220;underwent Islamist radical indoctrination.&#8221; He did not offer more information.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday called the incident &#8220;an attempted jihadist terror attack,&#8221; and referred to the co-pilot as a &#8220;terrorist.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President Trump suggested Thursday that the co-pilot may be linked to Iran, &#8220;based on what I&#8217;m hearing.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re working on it right now,&#8221; Mr. Trump said. &#8220;They&#8217;re being very open with us. I would say the answer, based on what I&#8217;m hearing, is yes. But we&#8217;re working on it right now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His comments went further than Netanyahu, who <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FoxNews\/status\/2105470632943059042?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2105470632943059042%7Ctwgr%5E4592395c05f160cf06659ec0278ab2ee35b89081%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/liveblog-october-01-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Fox<\/a> it was &#8220;too early to say&#8221; if Iran was involved.<\/p>\n<p>An Israeli security official told CBS News that authorities were investigating the possibility the incident could have been an attempted Sept. 11-style terror attack, and were also probing whether the attacker was working alone. Netanyahu has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/iran-war-us-trump-talks-strait-of-hormuz\/#post-update-8f04da59\" target=\"_blank\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">warned in recent days<\/a> of unspecified, escalating security threats to Israel and its interests amid its ongoing operations against Iran-allied Hamas in the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/israel-gaza-conflict\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Gaza Strip<\/a><\/span> and Hezbollah in Lebanon. \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Co-pilot to be questioned in UAE \u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The co-pilot was placed under arrest immediately.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was &#8220;being questioned by the Saudi authorities&#8221; on Wednesday, Netanyahu said. Netanyahu said Israeli authorities would &#8220;join the interrogation and find out what happened there exactly,&#8221; but did not say when that might happen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu did not specify whether the questioning that led investigators to believe the co-pilot had undergone &#8220;Islamist radical indoctrination&#8221; was carried out by Saudi or Israeli authorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A senior Israeli official told CBS News&#8217; Dov Lieber on Thursday that United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan personally told Netanyahu on Wednesday that he expected Saudi authorities to transfer the co-pilot to the UAE for questioning.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia said Thursday afternoon that the co-pilot had been transferred to the UAE, the Associated Press
