Cole<\/a> has finally opened up about <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/drake\" target=\"_blank\">Drake<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/kendrick-lamar\" target=\"_blank\">Kendrick Lamar<\/a>\u2018s beef in his first series of interviews since he controversially bowed out of the high-profile rap battle.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting down with Apple Music\u2019s Nadeska Alexis for <a class=\"underline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/news\/j-cole-fall-off-favorite-songs\/\" target=\"_blank\">one of many in-depth conversations about his latest album <em>The Fall-Off<\/em><\/a>, the Dreamville star explained why he apologized to Kendrick for his since-deleted diss track \u201c7 Minute Drill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The idea] hit me about an hour before [I went out on stage at Dreamville Fest],\u201d he said. \u201cIn that moment, I felt lifted and I got light and I got excited. Because the two or three days before that, I was stressing the fuck out. I felt like I had misrepresented myself. I was giving life to division and to negative storylines about somebody that I fuck with and I got love for and care about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat shit had me feeling terrible. I was like, \u2018This shit don\u2019t feel right\u2019 \u2026 I felt miserable about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cole also revealed that his wife \u201cstarted crying\u201d when he told her that he was going to make peace with Kendrick because \u201cshe knows how I feel about him and she saw how it was weighing on me the two or three days before that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The North Carolina native went on to admit that he was aware of the <a class=\"underline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/news\/fat-joe-says-j-cole-tainted-his-legacy-with-kendrick-lamar-apology\/\" target=\"_blank\">widespread backlash over his decision to wave the white flag<\/a>, and while he doesn\u2019t regret his actions, the criticism did make a dent in his confidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe world didn\u2019t give a fuck [about how great I felt after the apology] and they were fucking me up \u2014 my name, my reputation. Although the lightness that I felt made it easier to deal with, over time I had to process that shit and I had to get right,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt always felt like the right move, but there were times where I thought, \u2018Damn, n*gga, you\u2019re fucking <em>done<\/em> right now. It\u2019s over!\u2019 That brought up emotions and fears that I had to sit with and fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cole added that it was hard to block out the noise because \u201cevery other muthafucking video\u201d he came across on YouTube was about him. \u201cI knew it was bad because people were calling and texting to check on me like, \u2018You good, bro?&#8217;\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"optanon-category-C0003\" width=\"900\" height=\"360\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/jRpDUUplvTc?si=p9NIs4bRop_j2S97\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In a separate interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/camron\" target=\"_blank\">Cam\u2019ron<\/a>, which puts their <a class=\"underline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/news\/j-cole-responds-camron-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\">bizarre legal battle<\/a> to bed, J. Cole opened up about his current relationship with both Drake and Kendrick Lamar now that the dust has settled on their 2024 showdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m in the same place where I genuinely love these n*ggas, but I\u2019m not gonna act like we\u2019ve been communicating and talking,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve had conversations with them post everything but not, like, a lot. That\u2019s me not knowing where <em>they\u2019re<\/em> at.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI genuinely love these n*ggas. I be wanting to shoot off a text. Even saying that on the mic is kinda lame to me, but it is my truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 41-year-old also expressed \u201cdisgust\u201d at the intense division between Drake and Kendrick\u2019s respective fanbases, as well as the level of hate that Drizzy has faced since losing the battle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight away, the world became like politics \u2014 you either Democrat or Republican; you either Kendrick or Drake. You gotta pick a side,\u201d he dismayed. \u201cCreatively, it\u2019 not my place to say [whether it got out of hand]. But to me it\u2019s disgusting how people tried to use that opportunity to either show how they really felt about Drake the whole time or just pile on and tear this dude down and create a narrative as if he\u2019s not great. It was a whole campaign, and probably still is to this day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cole did, however, congratulate Kendrick on the enormous success he has enjoyed after emerging victorious over Drake, even if it has come at the expense of his \u201cFirst Person Shooter\u201d collaborator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I saw Kendrick get the moment he had \u2014 the Pop Out, the stadium, the Super Bowl, the Grammys \u2014 I\u2019m just as proud of this n*gga as I was when I knew him back then,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I also hate that for Drake and I hate how the world has turned on him. Simulatenously, I\u2019m also like, \u2018I hope <a class=\"underline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/news\/drake-drops-three-new-songs-on-iceman-stream\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Iceman<\/em><\/a> goes crazy!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Snippets of J.
