Pat, who had been working with Chance since 2012, claims he was terminated after the release of Chano&#8217;s 2019 album <a href=\"https:\/\/music.apple.com\/us\/album\/the-big-day\/1474378343\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Big Day Out<\/em><\/a>. However, Chance failed to honor the terms of Pat&#8217;s work agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Pat sued for &#8220;compensatory damages and exemplary damages for breach of their agreement, related violations of the Illinois Sales Representative Act,&#8221; as well as for attorney fees incurred from filing the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Chance countered in 2021 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/chance-the-rapper-legal-fallout-gets-nastier-artist-sues-ex-manager-for-more-than-1m-alleging-shocking-violations-of-trust\/\" target=\"_blank\">filing a lawsuit against Pat<\/a>, claiming he &#8220;repeatedly breached his fiduciary responsibilities to Mr. Bennett by trading on Mr. Bennett\u2019s good name for his own benefit&#8221; and was a disgruntled employee.<\/p>\n<p>The legal haggling continued. Pat countersued Chance for breach of contract. Chance then successfully got Pat&#8217;s initial lawsuit dismissed in July of 2021. However, the court allowed Pat to move forward with his claims that he is owed commissions for three years after they split.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We respectfully believe that the Court incorrectly denied summary judgment, as there is no legal or factual basis for Mr. Corcoran or his entity to obtain additional compensation from Mr. Bennett or his entities for a full three years after Mr. Corcoran was fired,&#8221; Chance\u2019s legal counsel said following last week\u2019s order.<\/p>\n<p>A trial date has not been set.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming court case comes two months after the rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xxlmag.com\/chance-the-rapper-settles-divorce-kirsten-corley\/\" target=\"_blank\">settled his divorce<\/a> from his ex-wife Kirsten Corley.<\/p>\n<p><em>XXL<\/em> has reached out
