Sam Austins – Hot like you – Sam Austins drops new music video
Today, singer, songwriter and producer Sam Austins announces the release of his new project The Woods due June 20th via Atlantic Records. The 8-track project is a 20-minute dance through heartbreak, hope, infatuation and anxiety. Alongside the announcement of The Woods, Sam shares his new single and video for “Hot (like you).”
Before Sam Austins could speak, he was already crafting beats on an MPC in his parents’ Detroit living room. Raised in a household steeped in sound, his father toured with The Four Tops, while his mother, a postal worker, filled their home with records. Sam’s creative path was set early. By the age of two, he had already appeared on local TV, playing both piano and drum machine as a self-taught prodigy in motion.
That early spark evolved into a bold musical identity, one that now spans soul, funk, indie rock, electronica, and beyond. Austins broke through with his deeply personal mixtape HOMELESS STAR, a heartfelt tribute to the grit and resilience of Detroit. In 2023, his daring EP Boy Toy showcased his genre-defying approach, channeling the energy of Outkast, LCD Soundsystem, and Smashing Pumpkins. But it was “Seasons,” written during a period of personal and creative reckoning that reignited his fire. Newly single and holed up with a drum machine, he created a breakout single that captured both heartbreak and possibility.
Now based in Los Angeles, Sam continues to evolve. His upcoming EP The Woods is an 8-song odyssey through love, loss, and self-discovery. Songs like “Say What You Mean” and “A baby girl named Heaven” radiate the bold romanticism of Prince, while “Smoke break” and “river stream” ground his sound in the emotional and sonic textures of his Detroit roots. With elements of ghettotech, electro, and indie pop all woven into his vision, The Woods marks his most ambitious work yet.
Having performed at major festivals like Lollapalooza and Bleached Fest, and shared the stage with artists like Omar Apollo and KAYTRANADA, Austins stands at the forefront of a new wave of alternative pop. A passionate storyteller with a producer’s ear and a poet’s heart, he makes music on his own terms – idiosyncratic, instinctive, and deeply human.
