Nefarius – Tough Dumplin

Nefarius is a Canadian hip-hop group out of Toronto that started up sometime back in the 1990’s. It originally started off with three members, Collizhun (MC & Producer), Don. D (DJ) & Kwesro (MC), and had developed quite a following in the east coast of Canada, but not much elsewhere unfortunately. They mostly performed live shows and did bits on radio spots, not really sure how many singles or records they put out. Before really achieving any media attention, Kwesro passed away in the late 90’s, and Don D. shortly went his own way causing the group to disband essentially.

Without his cohorts, Collizhun, determined and focused put out this wicked little 10" EP in 2000, a showcase of his production and humorous lyrical style done with a little Jamaican flavour. It starts off on the "Ackee" side as he calls it with the incredible "Pondering", a wicked boom bap track that just makes you nod your head till your neck snaps. Then we have "Lei Lo" where Collizhun spits some battle like lyrics, and "Toe To Toe" featuring the Butta Babees from Montreal. The "Banana" side consists entirely of wicked instrumentals… a great little album I would recommend. Not sure of it’s availability anymore though…
