Rick Ross Turns 50 Cent’s Aging-in-Hip-Hop Argument Back on Him

Rick Ross doesn’t agree with 50 Cent‘s recent comments that hip-hop is a young person’s game, and pushed back at his nemesis by arguing it may just be a 50 thing.

On Sunday (Aug. 23), Rozay shared a post to his Instagram Story and made sure to tag 50 so the intended target knew who the message was for. He included “RIP” in his caption for extra emphasis.

“I saw Curtis Jackson say he ain’t doing no music and it makes sense for the music he makes,” Ross said. “But Bun B just hit the stage. The south won’t let Bun B stop rapping. If Pimp C was alive we wouldn’t let Pimp C stop rapping, they could put out albums until they’re 85 years old.

He continued: “When the streets love you and the culture needs you and you bring something that can’t be duplicated, f**k what your age is.”

Ross’ comments came in response to remarks 50 made during a conversation with Ebro Darden at Joe and Donell Jones’ VERZUZ event last Thursday (Aug. 20). During the discussion, 50 argued that hip-hop’s close connection to youth culture makes it difficult for older rappers to remain at the forefront of the genre.

“Hip-hop culture is connected to youth culture,” 50 said. “You are not supposed to be the hottest in nothing at 60.”

He acknowledged that his own music career has slowed considerably as he has shifted his focus toward TV, film and his other business ventures, and described his occasional appearances on songs as brief “entries” that allow him to show listeners that he “still got it.”
