A Look at the Violent Prison Inmate Who Stabbed Tory Lanez


The man accused of stabbing rapper Tory Lanez 14 times in prison on Monday has a history of violence, including a murder conviction.

Prison Officials ID Tory Lanez’s Attacker

On Tuesday (May 13), a spokesperson for the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, Calif., released more details about Lanez’s recent stabbing. The alleged attacker has been identified as Santino Casio. Casio, 42, was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole for second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon and inflict great bodily injury in 2004. While incarcerated, on Jan. 3, 2008, he was sentenced to six years for assault by prisoner with a deadly weapon of force likely to cause great bodily injury, in-prison offense.  On June 12, 2018, he was sentenced to two years for possession/manufacture of a deadly weapon by prisoner, in-prison offense.

Following the Tory attack, Casio has been placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by the CCI Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. A motive for the stabbing has not been released.

Gruesome Details of Tory Lanez’s Stabbing

On Monday (May 12), TMZ first broke the news that Tory had been stabbed in prison. The prison later confirmed the news to XXL, revealing Tory, born Daystar Peterson, was transported to an outside hospital for further treatment. The rapper’s camp later revealed the gruesome details behind the incident in an Instagram post.

“Tory was stabbed 14 times — including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face,” the statement reads below. “Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support.”

Tory is currently serving a 10-year sentence after being found guilty in December of 2022 of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
